About

Where your differences are celebrated as your greatest strengths.

Kirsten Sowell (she/her), LCSW, is the founder and therapist at Equality Therapy Clinic, P-LLC. A proud native of Arkansas, Kirsten earned her Master’s Degree in Social Work from the University of Arkansas in Fayetteville in 2008, with a concentration in mental health and LGBTQ studies. During her graduate studies, Kirsten began her advocacy journey, presenting on LGBTQ issues, actively participating in local Pride organizations, and curating and sharing resources to support the LGBTQ community. She is a Licensed Certified Social Worker (5737-C) dedicated to providing compassionate and affirming care to individuals from all walks of life. Kirsten works with clients aged 9 and up, with a particular focus on teenagers and their families, as well as adults. With over 16 years of post-graduate experience as a mental health professional, Kirsten has worked in diverse settings including schools, outpatient clinics, grief support groups, medical clinics, and hospitals. Through these experiences, she has cultivated a deep understanding of walking alongside clients during both life’s everyday challenges and its most difficult moments. From 2018 to 2022, Kirsten played a vital role in the development and growth of two pediatric gender clinics in Arkansas, as part of a treatment team providing comprehensive care for transgender and non-binary youth and their families. A dedicated advocate, she has spoken before the Arkansas House of Representatives and Senate, passionately opposing discriminatory legislation. Kirsten has also provided education and training to mental health professionals, medical providers, educators, and lawmakers, emphasizing the critical importance of gender-affirming care. Deeply connected to her LGBTQ community, she continues work to foster understanding, inclusion, and support for LGBTQ individuals and their families. When Kirsten is winding down, she enjoys spending time with her family, her friends, her corgi, Dolly, and her 4 cats. Kirsten enjoys being in nature – kayaking, hiking, or swimming. She also loves dance, karaoke, drag, all things Sci-Fi and nerdy, and participating in Pride events. If you think Kirsten could be a good fit for your needs, please don’t hesitate to reach out. Call or email her today to schedule a free 15-minute consultation.
